Astrological Meanderings: Indonesia's Independence Chart

Indonesia's Independence Chart

As part of my efforts to rekindle an interest in mundane astrology, I'm looking at the chart for Indonesia's independence. Formal recognition of independence only occurred in December of 1949 but the Indonesians themselves declared independence in 1945. Here is Wikipedia's summation of what happened:
The Proclamation of Indonesian Independence (Indonesian: Proklamasi Kemerdekaan Indonesia, or simply Proklamasi) was read at 10.00 a.m. on Friday, 17 August 1945. The declaration marked the start of the diplomatic and armed resistance of the Indonesian National Revolution, fighting against the forces of the Netherlands and pro-Dutch civilians, until the latter officially acknowledged Indonesia's independence in 1949. In 2005, the Netherlands declared that they had decided to accept de facto 17 August 1945 as Indonesia's independence date. In a 2013 interview the Indonesian historian Sukotjo, amongst others, asked the Dutch government to formally acknowledge the date of independence as 17 August 1945. The United Nations, who mediated in the conflict, formally acknowledge the date of independence as 27 December 1949.
Rather foolishly, the first chart that I drew up for the big moment used UTC+7:00, the same as is used today. Big mistake. It turns out that between Monday, 23rd March at 12:00 am and Sunday, 23rd September at 12:00 am, the entire country used Japan Standard Time which is UTC+9:00. Source. So I've replaced the original chart with this new one, shown in Figure 1:

The correct chart isn't vastly different to the previous, incorrect chart but it means that instead of the first degree of Scorpio rising, the 27th degree of Virgo is rising instead. This makes Mercury, in 0°16'R Virgo, the ruling planet.

Some other important dates in Indonesian history (source):
  • September 30th 1965 - Sukarno overthrown
  • May 21st 1998, 9:00 am - President Suharto announced his resignation and ask Indonesian Vice President DR BJ Habibie to become the new Indonesian President
  • October 12th 2002 - Blasts at crowded nightspots in the resort island of Bali kill 202 people, mostly foreign tourists. The blast is blamed on Jemaah Islamiah.
  • December 26th 2004 - A massive earthquake and a tsunami devastated parts of northern Sumatra
  • August 16th 2005 - The Dutch government recognized 1945 as the country's year of independence and expressed regrets over the Indonesian deaths caused by the Netherlands' Army
  • May 27th 2006 - A severe earthquake struck the city of Yogyakarta
Figure 2 is the same chart as shown in Astrotheme:
